Young Jik
Bell
Jul 9, 1941 — Feb 15, 2024
University Place
Young Jik Bell, 82, went home to Heaven on the morning of February 15, 2024, in Tacoma, WA. She was born on July 9, 1941, in Seoul, Korea, to Yun Ok Pak and Ak Yi Choe. She is survived by her husband, Thomas New Bell Jr, daughter Barbara Culp, son Thomas Newton Bell III, granddaughters Elizabeth Culp and Sarah Culp, two sisters, and one brother.
She came to the United States in 1970 and lived with her oldest sister and brother-in-law, and started working at JBLM. Shortly after she started working there, she met her husband, and they traveled to other states and countries due to him being in the military services until he left the military in 1979. They settled here in Tacoma, WA and raised two children. During this time she attended a Korean church in Tacoma, where she was a long-time member and also made many friends and acquaintances over the 53 years of working at the same place. She loved her job and was working up to four weeks before she passed away.
During her days off, she loved to spend time with her family, going out to eat, and shopping. On beautiful spring and summer days, she loved to be in her garden, where she grew many different vegetables and flowers. Family was the most important thing in her life, especially her two granddaughters. Often, she would give flowers from her garden as gifts to her friends and family. Her evening downtime was spent watching Korean news and shows.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. There were so many lives she has touched throughout her 82 years here with us. We take comfort in knowing we will see her again one day.
