Yi Un
Ortega
Jun 19, 1979 — Mar 17, 2023
Tacoma
Yi Un Ortega was born June 19, 1979, in Fort Carson, Colorado, and passed away at age 43 on March 17, 2023. He was a son, little brother, father, and friend to many. His father Camilo Manuel Ortega Sr. was in the Army and stationed in Korea where he met his mother Sang Ortega. Years later, his father was stationed in Fort Lewis, where they raised Yi and Camilo, in Spanaway, Washington.
He lived in Tacoma for most of his life and had a great childhood, he was well-loved by many, especially his parents. He was very close to them, but lost his father suddenly, while in high school on Nov. 23, 1994. He then continued to go school to Spanaway Lake high school and Challenger high school and ended up getting his GED. He spent most of his career in the HVAC field but wanted to pursue a career in forensic and crime investigation in the future.
In his younger years, he went by Lee and "Fat- Kat" because he loved to eat, especially Korean food with his mom and enjoyed making new recipes. He also enjoyed hiking the mountains and trails with friends and family. He was a huge fan of the Seahawks, and we will always remember him that way. He was full of life, always full of stories, funny, and charismatic.
Yi will be cremated and his ashes will be next to his father Camilo Sr., who is buried at New Tacoma Cemetery. He leaves behind his son, Jonathan, twin daughters Destiny and Sang, his mother Sang Ortega, brother Camilo Ortega Jr., sister in law, Marisol Ortega, nephews; Camilo III, Vincent, and Cortez, nieces; Myla, Marena, and Meilyn Ortega. He will be missed dearly, and will always have a place in our hearts. Rest easy, we love you…
