Van Smith Carroll

Van Smith Carroll, 84, of University Place, Washington, passed away on January 21, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol, his daughter, and two grandchildren.  Van served in the Air Force and spent many years with the Milwaukee Railroad and Sea Pac Transport Services, making friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Van enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing handball, watching sports, and playing cribbage. He loved to give opponents a hard time during games but whether it resulted in a win or a loss, he always left others with a smile on their face. More than anything, he enjoyed relaxing in his lawn chair and watching the world go by with his friends and neighbors. He excelled in commanding the attention and interest of others with captivating stories, often leaving others puzzled and pondering the veracity of his tall tales.  More often than naught, they were true!
