Thama Estelle
Northrop
Oct 28, 1933 — Aug 17, 2026
Thama Northrop passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026. She was 92 years old. Born in Arkansas to Jesse Earl McDonald and Flossie Tresa McDonald, Thama spent her childhood in Yakima, Washington, where she developed a lifelong love for nature and community. She graduated from nursing school in Yakima and began a long career of service and compassion, working as a nurse in many settings. She completed her career as a dedicated school nurse in the University Place School District, where she cared for generations of students. It was in Yakima that she met her future husband, Robert Northrop, with whom she shared 44 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2000. Together, they raised two children, who were her pride and joy. Thama was also blessed with three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense happiness. Outside of her work, she found joy in tending her garden, singing in the church choir, and dancing. She is survived by her children, Cindy (Richard) and Steven (Julie); grandchildren, RJ (Salem) and Sam (Stefania); Nicole (David); and great-grandchildren, Sophia and Zermatt; and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close.
A graveside service will be held at the New Tacoma Cemetery at a later date.
In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the University Place Presbyterian Church, Attention: Music & Arts Institute.
