Stephen Ray
Kelso
Nov 4, 1952 — Jul 12, 2023
Gig Harbor
Stephen Ray Kelso, age 70, of Gig Harbor, WA, entered his eternal home on July 12, 2023, leaving behind memories of an amazing life marked by passionate service, unwavering faith, and hundreds of lives touched by his servant-heart love for each of them. Born on November 4, 1952, in Lewiston, ID, Stephen grew in knowledge and relationship with the Lord. He now knows the answers to many of his questions.
A follower of Jesus, Stephen was able to take the light of God's love around the world. With a heart fueled by enthusiasm, he generously utilized his entrepreneurial talents to impact lives. His experience as a restaurant manager and owner, he nourished not only the bodies of his patrons but also their spirits, creating an atmosphere of warmth and joy within his establishments. But it was his time in Asia, being obedient to God's calling, that truly showed his heart, as he fearlessly traveled in the name of His Savior, sharing the message of hope and salvation to the lost. The hundred of messages upon his passing attests to the investments he made to those that God brought to him.
Rooted in deep faith, Stephen found joy and strength in the fellowship at The Refuge Church of Bremerton. Here, he enjoyed the family of Christ with fellow believers, praying with many and being blessed by the Lord. And it was here that he felt welcomed and loved by their care and compassion, and filled, over and over again, by God's Spirit.
Stephen was not merely defined by his occupation; he flourished through various avenues. He was a true entrepreneur. His thirst for knowledge led him to continue his education. He graduated from Lewiston High School, and went on to attend both Canadian Bible College, and Simpson Bible College. He delighted in the company of well-worn books, finding refuge and inspiration within their pages. Walking in God's creation often brought inspiration as he enjoyed the beauty of the Creator's hand. Additionally, Stephen cherished the friendships of those who joined him during prayer groups, game nights and shared moments of laughter with his closest companions.
Stephen's earthly journey concluded on July 12, 2023, in the home he loved and shared with his wife and pup. Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Fred Kelso; his daughter, Miranda Batty; his wife, Ru Kelso; and his stepsons, Nicholas Graves and Nolan Graves along with grandchildren and a new great grandson. As he reunites with his departed father, Rodell Kelso, mother, Gloria Kelso, and daughter, Brittany Clark, Stephen's legacy of faith, fortitude, and passion perseveres through those who continue to carry his light.
In honor of Stephen's life, a memorial service will be conducted on Friday, August 11, 2023, commencing at 6:00 pm. We invite all who were touched by this exceptional soul to gather at Crossroads Neighborhood Church, located at 7555 Old Military Road NE, Bremerton, WA 98111, to sing praises, share stories, and celebrate Stephen and his graduation to glory.
Stephen Ray Kelso was a broken vessel that the Lord used to make a big impact in the lives of many. He learned to walk humbly with God, and to find gratitude in the circumstances that He experienced. His hopes were for those who were lost to find the Lord and be filled with the joy and peace only found in Christ.
