Sheila Ann Burk Green was born on September 1, 1942, in Riverside, California to
Earl Radford Burk and Ola Marvine Fouste Burk. She was the first of four children,
Nancy, Don and Richard. She grew up in humble circumstances and carried on
their thrifty ways for her entire life. She died peacefully on July 27, 2023 at the
age of 80 in Tacoma, Washington.
Sheila met the love of her life and soul mate, Jack, thanks to Dorothy Merritt
Green, her mother-in-law. At the time, it may have been said that the pair would
never last as it was quite a whirlwind romance, but she and John (Jack) Frederick
Green shared their 60th wedding anniversary in June 2023.
Sheila and Jack created a beautiful family together, with three wonderful children.
It was a tight family unit, as Jack's career saw many relocations. Sheila was a force
of nature with her love of family, friends and volunteer opportunities. She disliked
being idle, so she was always whipping up something on her sewing machine,
creating new recipes, traveling and Girl Scouting. She was a role model as a wife
and mother. The legacy of a well-adjusted, loving family is evident in the
successful and much-loved family including 6 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild.
When Jack retired from Weyerhaeuser Company, they set themselves on the GOGO-GO trajectory. It would be a challenge to document the many overseas and
domestic adventures they enjoyed. From road trips in the US, long boats in the
UK, numerous cruises, including one around the world, long trips on their own
boat, Brizo, their retirement years were full of travel. She was an avid and active
member of the Power Squadron, leading classes and serving as Secretary for
several years. Later in life she joined the Daughters of the American Revolution
and enjoyed the "Girl Scouts for Grownups" experience. To top it all off, Sheila
(and Jack!) enjoyed dinner parties, playing Bridge, wine tastings and the theater.
While Sheila's final years were full of health challenges, she soldiered on. She
exemplified a true survivor spirit. In her last days, she was comforted by her
family's presence and reassured that she'd done a helluva good job in life. She is
preceded by her parents, Earl and Ola, and two brothers, Don and Richard. She is
survived by her sister Nancy (Toby) Perry, husband Jack, daughter Cheryl (Andy)
Lydyard, daughter Suzanne (Todd) Bodner, and son Paul (Judy) Green. She will be
terribly missed in this life, but is now free of pain and suffering.
