Russell Ouray
Maughan
Mar 16, 1969 — Jul 9, 2026
Lakewood
Friends and Family,
It is our solemn duty to announce that on July 9, 2026, Russell Ouray Maughan passed from this plane to the next. His family is hosting a Celebration of Life to honor him on Friday, August 14th, at Our Lady of the Earth and Sky (OLOTEAS) in Redmond, WA.
Russ, aged 57, passed in his sleep from complications with cancer.
He was a resident of Lakewood, Washington, at the time of his passing.
Born in San Diego, California, to Barbara Ann Russell and Jerald K. Maughan, Russ was the youngest of 4 children. His family settled in Logan, Utah, where he grew up, graduated from Logan High School, and started a family. Known to some as "Frog," he was a motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed hacky sack and attending concerts. The most important things to Russ were time with family and time outdoors. Russ is survived by his beloved children and cherished grandchildren.
Attendees to Russ' Memorial Service can start to gather at 3 pm. The event will be outdoors and will include a symbolic funeral pyre. We will be hosting a drumming circle if you want to bring a drum to participate.
This is not a formal event; dress appropriately for the outdoor weather and consider wearing a band t-shirt, motorcycle gear, or a shirt that reminds you of Russ. Bring wetland-appropriate footwear/dancing shoes; Russ specifically asked that everyone do the hokey pokey dance, because that's what life is all about.
Afterwards, there will be a potluck reception on site and time to visit. Please bring Lupus- or allergen-friendly foods to share, and please label ingredients to the best of your ability.
If you would like to purchase flowers or memorial offerings for the family in Russ' honor, please deliver flowers and memorial offerings by Thursday, 8/13/2026, to:
New Tacoma Cemeteries, Funeral Home, & Crematory
9212 Chambers Creek Road West
University Place, WA 98467
In Russ' honor, please also consider donating to OLOTEAS, which has been a great support to the community and to Russ' family for many years.
