Roger Attwood

May 28, 1939 - August 2, 2025

Roger Allen Attwood—beloved husband, dad, grandpa, teacher, counselor, fisherman, handyman, bargain-hunter -passed away on August 2, 2025, with family and friends at his side.

Roger was born in Tacoma, Washington, to Keith and Clara Attwood, who blessed him with three important things: a strong Norwegian heritage, a keen eye for a good deal, and an inexplicable love for lutefisk. He and his older brother Larry kept the household lively with a steady stream of boyhood mischief-some of which we probably still haven't heard about.

Roger didn't just enjoy the outdoors-he lived there. A true adventurer at heart, he built his own boat (because of course, he could) and spent his summers navigating the waters of Alaska, catching fish bigger than most of us believe, and retelling the stories with just enough embellishment to keep things interesting. Fall meant hunting season-Roger didn't just bring home the bacon, he probably hunted it.....and then cut it up and wrapped it too. Winters drew him to Mexico, where he built a house, soaked up the sun, and fished for sailfish and dorado like a man living his best life. If it involved water, wild animals, or duct tape, Roger was in his element.

At home, he was the family fixer-of broken things, broken plans, and occasionally broken spirits. If something needed building, solving, or adjusting, Roger had a tool for that (and a backup). And if he didn't, he'd invent one.

Professionally, he wore the hats of teacher and counselor, but really, he was a lifelong coach for anyone who needed guidance. His advice was wise, his jokes were dry, and his heart was big. His Christian faith grounded him and guided him, and he lived it out daily-quietly, consistently, and without fanfare.

Roger is survived by his wonderful wife, Bobbi; his four children (who are just now realizing how many tools they've inherited); eight amazing grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brother Larry; nieces and nephews; and a very long list of fishing buddies, church family, coffee companions, and people who still can't believe he liked lutefisk. He leaves behind a legacy of love, ingenuity, curiosity, and slightly exaggerated stories-most of which are too good to fact-check.

A celebration of Roger's life will be held on Friday, August 15, at 1:00pm, at Faith Christian Fellowship at Centralia Christian School, 1315 S. Tower Avenue, Centralia, Washington.
