Robert Steven Masko, age 70 of University Place, WA, passed away on September 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Tacoma, WA, on October 28, 1954, to Donald and Glenna Masko, Rob grew up with a deep love for family and community.  He graduated from Wilson High School in 1973 and Washington State University in 1977 with a degree in criminal justice.  Go Cougs!

Rob dedicated his life to public service.  His distinguished career in law enforcement spanned nearly four decades, culminating with his retirement as Undersheriff for the Pierce County Sheriff's Department after 37 years of service.  A respected leader and mentor, Rob was admired for his integrity, wisdom, kindness, and compassion.  He treated every person with dignity and devoted his career to protecting and improving his community.

Throughout his life, Rob gave generously of his time and talents, serving on numerous boards and committees. He was a Fircrest City Councilmember, LEYC Camp Director, Civil Service Commissioner, youth group leader, youth sports coach, and TAPCO Credit Union Board member, most recently serving as Chair.  Following retirement, he continued his commitment to community through service on Crime Stoppers, his homeowner's association, the Fircrest Civil Service Oral Board, and the University Place Public Safety Levy Committee.  He also worked tirelessly to secure donations for new playground equipment at Masko Park – creating a lasting legacy for children to enjoy for many years to come.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Rob was happiest cheering on his Cougars, Mariners, Seahawks, Rainiers, and Sounders, while always holding out hope for the return of the Seattle Sonics.  He loved golf outings with family and friends and carried on his tradition of coaching his kid's sports by helping coach his grandson's baseball team.

Rob also enjoyed annual trips to Hawaii, traveling to sports venues around the country, Disneyland adventures with his family, maintaining his beautiful yard, and multiple daily walks with Ellie, his beloved Golden Retriever.  Known for his infectious laugh, sharp wit, silly jokes, and warm presence, he lit up every room and created countless fun memories for all those fortunate to know him.

Above all, Rob was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Rob is survived by his loving wife Dawn; children Christine (Jay), Shane (Heather), Amy (Eric), Alex (Laura), and Carson; and his cherished grandchildren Ethan (16), Landon (13), Drew (10), Violet (8), and bonus grandchildren Noah (11) and Mila (5).  He is also survived by his sisters Patty and Mindy (Ed), nephew Kevin, in-laws George and Sharon Budd, brothers-in-law George (Kris) and Dan (Tomi), his dog Ellie, and many close friends and extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM at University Place Presbyterian Church, 8101 – 27th Street West, University Place, WA.  In honor of Rob's love of sports, guests are encouraged to wear attire from one of his favorite teams.

Although Rob's time with us was far too short, his impact on his family, friends, colleagues, and the community is immeasurable.  He is now resting in God's arms, but his legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on.
