Robert John Jachim, Sr. (Bob) passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Lakewood, Washington, on April 25, 2024.

Bob was born to Rosemarie (Matel) & Walter Jachim on July 2, 1937, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His love for University of Michigan football commenced shortly after. Outside of his home, he was rarely seen without his blue University of Michigan baseball cap. (Go Blue!) His grandkids weren't even sure he had hair!

Bob graduated from the University of Michigan in 1960 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and again in 1961 with a Master of Business Administration.

Shortly after his graduation, Bob was drafted into the U.S Army and served with distinction for twenty-eight years as a Military Intelligence officer. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1990. During his distinguished career, he earned numerous honors, including the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars for valor, the Defense Meritorious Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, an Air Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After retiring from the Army, he continued to work as a contractor for the Army. While he retired in Ft. Lewis, Washington, after two tours in Hawaii, everyone knows he left a permanent part of his heart there. He tried to return as often as possible for trips with his golfing buddies.

Bob had a profound love for golf; a passion ignited in his youth from an early job as a golf caddy. He maintained a single-digit handicap for decades and in recent years won the senior club championship at his local course. As he aged his golfing frequency changed from "every Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday rain or shine" to "when the weather's ok," but his love for the sport never faltered. Family and friends will never forget his Christmas tree, which was adorned entirely with bag tags from golf courses he played around the world.

No one would describe Bob as a talker; but when he spoke, his words carried weight with family and friends. He was known for his generosity, humility, and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his former wife, Elizabeth Jachim nee Humphreys; his children Robert (Cynthia) Jachim, Dr. Elizabeth (Michael) Osborn, and Suzanne (Christopher Konker) Jachim, along with grandchildren Jonathan (Morgan) Osborn, Dr. Sarah Jachim, Daniel Jachim, and Katherine (Christopher) Rojas. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Baylee Osborn, Baylee Phillips, Savannah Rojas, Jonathan Rojas, Clarke Rojas, and Remington Rojas, as well as his sister Rosemarie (Jim) Dingman and an abundance of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings James Jachim, Walter Jachim, and Kathleen Harmon, as well as his great-grandson Nash Rojas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the American Lake Area 51 Veterans golf program in his honor. This is a small, local, volunteer run organization that helps veterans with or without disabilities play golf by providing equipment to the Wounded Warriors Battalion. After his passing, Bob's family donated 8 complete sets of clubs, 13 pairs of shoes, multiple putters, and too many golf balls to count. We know Bob will approve of the new owners we have selected for his clubs.
