Phyllis "Laurice" Dorman passed away on January 22, 2026, in Tacoma, Washington, at the age of 76. Her life was defined by service, creativity, and deep devotion to her family.

She was born on January 16, 1950, in Renton, Washington, and was the first of six children of Clarence and Phyllis Renshaw.

She graduated from Tyee High School, class of 1968, in SeaTac, Washington, and later completed an associate's degree as a medical assistant and was studying to become a licensed practical nurse. Her education and career took her throughout Washington and Oregon.

Laurice was the beloved and devoted wife of 40 years to her loving husband, Gary Dale Dorman. She cherished her children, Kenneth (Janel) Gunter, Shaun (Christa) Dorman, and Tyler (Venus) Dorman. She was a proud grandmother to Tyler's son, Tristan (Taylor), and great-grandmother to Tristan's children, Asher and Emerson. Laurice is survived by her siblings Lonnie (Donna) Renshaw, Larry (Lee Ann) Renshaw, Leon Renshaw, and Lorne (Tammy) Renshaw, and brother-in-law RJ Shaughnessy. She was preceded in death by both parents and her sister, Lynn Shaugnessy, as well as her brother Leon's wife, Kathy Renshaw.

Laurice was known for her strong work ethic, determination, and remarkable versatility. Her professional life included fiberglass repair work at EP Skis, followed by an accomplished career at Boeing in Auburn and Renton. At Boeing, she specialized in carbon fiber layup for aircraft wings, served as a safety coordinator, and contributed to multiple military aircraft programs. Her dedication and skill earned her several professional awards.

Outside of work, Laurice embraced life joyfully. She found peace and purpose in growing flowers and gardening, sewing, and quilting, and delighted in building bird feeders and birdhouses. She learned to sew from her mother and carried that skill throughout her life.  Watching Western movies along with cooking and baking were among her greatest joys. She was an exceptional cook and delighted in sharing treasured recipes, such as pies and cookies, leaving behind a legacy of tradition and love. Her warm kitchen, adorned with antique kitchen tools, was the center of the home.  She also loved camping and fishing and was a devoted fan of the Seahawks and Mariners. Competitive by nature and quick-witted, she was known as an exceptional Scrabble player and an enthusiastic participant in card games.

Laurice gave generously of her time and compassion through organizations such as the Salvation Army, Tacoma Rescue Mission, Wounded Warriors, Nisqually Sportsmen's Club, and other charitable organizations. She had a remarkable ability to love without condition all people and pets. She frequently stepped up to help others during times of illness or personal hardship, offering support and quiet strength. She was truly the heart of her family.

Music brought a smile to Laurice's face whenever she listened to her favorite songs, such as "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner, "Crazy" by Patsy Cline, "Mountain Jam" by the Allman Brothers, "Harvest Moon" by Neil Young, and "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers.  Other favorite singers were Ray Price, Marty Robbins, Kenny Rogers, and Glen Campbell.

Laurice will be remembered for her many talents, warmth, and generosity, which she shared so freely.  Her life was defined by service, creativity, and deep devotion to her family. Though she will be deeply missed, her love, lessons, and spirit will forever linger in the hearts of those who knew her.

A service in her honor will be held Monday, February 9th, at 1:00 pm at the New Tacoma Cemetery Chapel. A graveside ceremony will immediately follow.
