Phillip Joseph
Henry Marthaller
Jan 1, 1945 — Apr 20, 2024
Phillip Joseph Henry Marthaller passed away on April 20th, 2024 in Puyallup, WA after a lengthy illness. Phillip was born on January 1, 1945 in Tacoma, WA to Henry and Mary Marthaller. He grew up in the Tacoma and Toledo, Oregon areas and graduated from Toledo High School. He married his wife, Susan, on November 12, 1966. Phillip and Susan had known each other since birth, as their families had been good friends.
Phillip served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. The skills he learned as a mechanic in the service served him well for his future career with The Boeing Company where he proudly worked for over 35 years. Phillip also worked in the finance industry and was an insurance agent with Farmers Insurance for many years.
He enjoyed building furniture, camping, and was an avid coin collector. Family was always important to Phillip, as he would always talk about spending time with his nieces and nephews as they were growing up, and later in life, he boasted about his daughters, and grandchildren. He retired in 2016 and moved back to the Tacoma area with his wife.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary, sisters Katherine Gleason, Betty Robinson, Mary-Lou Kuehn, Patricia Rabey, Betty Reilly, Noni Cassidy Marty, brothers Raphael Marthaller and Francis Marthaller, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susan, daughters Jennifer (Chris) Caputo, Melinda (Brian) Schultz, grandchildren Brodie Nash, Ryan Caputo, Natalie Caputo, brothers Jim (Sally) Marthaller, and Michael (Susie) Marthaller.
Phillip may have been large in stature, but his heart was even bigger. To say he will be missed is an understatement.
