Pearl Mae
Williams
Apr 22, 1928 — Mar 7, 2023
Lakewood
Pearl Mae Williams was born on April 22, 1928 in Weirton, West Virginia, to James and Iola Herrell. She was studious as a child and graduated Salutatorian of her high school class. In 1952, Pearl graduated from Steubenville Business College and used her education to start a career in clerical support. She worked for the state of Washington for 29 years as a result. 1952 also saw Pearl marry and join her life to that of Garrett H. Williams. Together they enjoyed many blessings. A member of St. John's Bible Club for 56 years, the Colored Women's Club, and the NAACP, Pearl was a busy woman. She took joy in life, in the Lord, and helping others.
After a life filled with doing good works, Pearl passed away on March 7, 2023. She was 94 years old. Pearl was preceded in death by Willie J. Brown, Josie M. Herrell, Venessa Herrell, James Herrell, and Major Herrell. Left to continue loving her is her son, Garret E. Williams (and his wife) of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Remembrances for Pearl can be made to the Tacoma NAACP.
Services will be held at the Chambers Creek Chapel at New Tacoma Cemetery on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. A public viewing will begin at 10:00am with an 11:00am funeral and graveside service to follow.
