Obituary

Paul Russell, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 19, 2023, at the age of 98. Born to Charles and Edna Russell on August 30, 1924, in Ketchikan, Alaska, he moved with his family to Tacoma in 1926. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1943, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Indiana in the South Pacific for the duration of WWII.

In 1948 Paul started his career as a power lineman for Tacoma City Light. That same year he met and married the love of his life, Jean Grover. He went on to work at Parkland Light and Water in 1964, retiring as the Superintendent in 1989. Later he served on the board of Lakeview Light and Power and was their President and CEO from 2002 through 2011.

Paul was passionate about steelhead and salmon fishing, watching college football and girls fast pitch baseball, and putting together challenging 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Jean, Paul is survived by daughter Paula (Jerry) Ledbetter of Puyallup, son Chuck (Linda) Russell of University Place, and daughter Lee Ann (Tom) Matthews of Puyallup, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to his memory may be made to VFW.

A graveside service will be held at New Tacoma Cemetery on September 20, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with a reception following in Chambers Creek Chapel.
