Obituary

Orv Olson, 84, was called home to the Lord on Friday, June 3, 2022.

Orv was born on April 15, 1938, in Roseglen, North Dakota to Hans and Mabel Olson. He spent his childhood on the family farm with his three siblings. In 1956, he met Karen Berg and it was love at first sight! He told his cousin that first night that she was the girl he was going to marry. They were married on March 21, 1958, and ten months and ten days later they welcomed their first-born son, followed by another son and daughter. In 1966, they relocated to Lakewood, Washington and happily completed their family shortly after with their fourth child, another daughter.

He spent most of his career in private security and as a vocational instructor of the Loss Prevention program at Clover Park Technical College, retiring in 1998.

Orv was a kind, sweet man and those who were lucky enough to have known him will remember his warm smile and positive personality. He could always be depended upon to lend a helping hand and was known as the family fix-it man for his expertise in household repairs, and carpentry. Orv loved a good joke, classic cars, and ice cream. But most of all, he fiercely loved his family and looked forward to annual trips to 'the beach' in Seaside, Oregon and many other frequent family gatherings. When his children started families of their own, he delighted in his role as Papa O and showered his grandchildren with his unconditional love. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Harlan and Lowell Olson, and his infant son, Bradley Olson.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Karen; his children, Randy (Sandy) Olson, Kara Olson, and Debbie (Baron) Coleman; grandchildren, Taryn Tomlinson (Benjamin Wright), Nathan Olson, Joshua and Chelsea Coleman; great-grandchildren, James and Cody Wright; sister, Florence (Lonnie) Hanson; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
