Oliver Aubrey Bond, Jr. of University Place passed away on December 23, 2024 at the age of 96.  He was born February 1, 1928 in Sunnyside, Washington and was the eldest child of Oliver A. Bond, Sr. and Dorothy E. (Sackett) Bond.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Florence Bond.

Oliver graduated from Sunnyside High school in the spring of 1946.  In the fall of 1946 he enrolled in the State College of Washington (WSU) where he studied Agronomy.  After completing his bachelor's degree, he was drafted into the army where he served as a cryptographer in the Korean War.

When Oliver returned from Korea, he attended Central Washington University and earned his master's degree in teaching.  He took his first teaching job in Goldendale, Washington where he met fellow teacher, Florence Palmer.  The two were married in June of 1964.  Oliver then took a job with the County of Klickitat which allowed him to travel around Washington state.  Oliver worked for the County for four years then, in 1968, Oliver and Florence moved to University Place, Washington.

After moving to the west side of the mountains, Oliver took a job with the Clover Park School District in Lakewood, Washington.  He taught math and science in the district until his retirement in 1983.  Upon retiring from the school district, Oliver could be found at the Puyallup Fair Grounds working as the money manager for the Gold Parking lot.

In and outside of his work life Oliver had an insatiable curiosity and a relentless desire for knowledge.  He was an avid reader, kept up with the latest technology, was mindful of current events and had a knack for solving any crossword puzzle set before him.  He was a lover of music with preferences for the big band era and all types of jazz.  He enjoyed being an active member of a variety of community service groups such as the University Place Lion's Club, the First Christian Church of Tacoma, the Masons, Eastern Star, Master Gardeners, the Tacoma Fuchsia Club and the Radio Club of Tacoma.  He was a light to all that knew him and will be dearly missed.

Oliver is survived by his wife of 60 years, Florence E. Bond, his daughter, Valerie Wiebe (Cameron) and his granddaughters Olivia and Emily Wiebe. He is also survived by his brother Dwight (Ann) Bond and numerous nieces and nephews.
