Monty L. Laughlin
1937 – 2025
Monty L. Laughlin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in 1937 in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Lorin and Vivian Laughlin, Monty grew up surrounded by family and developed a strong sense of duty and compassion that guided his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Judy and Lorina; brothers Terry and Larry; his cherished son, Michael Laughlin; brother- and sister-in-law, Fred and Lily Richmond; and nephew, Christopher Richmond.
Monty is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Connie Laughlin; sons Monty Laughlin (Lynn), James Laughlin (Danyell), and Robert Laughlin (Sheryl); his grandchildren Andrew, Nicole, Brendan, Michael, Thomas, and Jonathan Laughlin; and his niece, Carey Hawkins Richmond. His legacy continues through them and the many lives he touched throughout his life.
Monty devoted himself to service—first to his country through his time in the U.S. Air Force, then to his community as a dedicated Sergeant with the Tacoma Police Department, where he served with honor for over 25 years. A hard-working man, Monty often held more than one job to provide for his family. He was known not only for his work ethic but also for his unwavering honesty in everything he did.
Beyond his professional commitments, Monty gave generously of his time through coaching and mentorship, shaping young lives with quiet strength and steady guidance.
A man of many passions, Monty found great joy in golf. He was fortunate to play on courses across several countries and states, often combining his love of the game with his love of travel. Whether exploring far-off destinations or enjoying a quiet round close to home, he was happiest with a golf club, a dog leash, or Connie's hand in his.
One of the small, simple pleasures in Monty's life was splitting a burger with his wife—a quiet tradition that reflected their lifelong bond and shared joy in everyday moments.
Monty L. Laughlin will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to those he loved, his integrity, and the joyful spirit with which he embraced life. His absence will be deeply felt, but his memory will forever be a blessing to those who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at New Tacoma Cemetery on October 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Monty's honor.
