Miyoko
Peebles
Nov 25, 1936 — Jan 23, 2024
Tacoma
Miyoko Peebles, age 87, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. She was born
November 25, 1936 to Yugen and Uta Okuma in Sashiki-son, Okinawa. She was the youngest
of nine children.
Miyoko was predeceased by her parents; all of her sisters and brothers; most recently her
husband, Jesse C. Peebles and son, Jesse H. Peebles. She is survived by her son, Tommy
(Sarah) Peebles; daughter, Mary (Tim) Lougheed; daughter-in-law, Tammy Peebles; six
grandchildren, Christopher Peebles, Stephanie Peebles, Cameron (Breanna) Peebles, Sarah
(Caleb) Cole, Rebecca Lougheed, and Tommy Peebles; one great-grandchild, Nicholae Peebles
and many extended family and friends.
She had a heart to serve. Miyoko served her church by teaching kindergartners in Sunday
School for about twenty years. She served in the kitchen not only at her church but also for
senior lunches at the Tillicum Community Center.
Miyoko was very creative and liked to learn new crafts. She went to a trade school for sewing
which led her to jobs in textiles in many of the duty stations that the US Army moved her family.
Her other hobbies involving crafts were: crocheting, needlework, making bonsai and flower
arrangements. Along with her love of crafts, she also had a love for people. Miyoko was a
member of the Okinawan Kenjin-Kai and Tacoma Hyakudokai clubs. Wherever she went she
loved to share her love of Jesus, making her affectionately known as "church Miyoko". She will
be missed by many but I know that she is rejoicing in heaven with Jesus, Jesse and Jesse.
