Maureen
Moore
Feb 6, 1965 — Oct 7, 2023
Fox Island
Maureen Gail (Wasson) Moore passed away peacefully at her home on Fox Island, Washington on October 7, 2023, after a brief struggle with cancer. She was 58 years old. Maureen was the second daughter of Thomas and Carol Wasson, born on February 6, 1965, at the Community hospital in Santa Rosa, California. Maureen will be remembered by many as a sensitive, inquisitive, sweet, and loving soul who raged against the injustices of the world.
Her early years were spent in Santa Rosa on a rural street where she enjoyed riding her pony and horse with sister, Cindy, and other children in the neighborhood. Always a student, Maureen spent hours in her room reading, as her love of books was learned at an early age. She received a master's degree in Humanities and the Arts at San Francisco State University in 1990, and from there began her career as Professor of Humanities at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, where she taught for over 25 years.
Maureen had many passions. Her love of learning and the arts was foundational but that love competed with her love of traveling. With her husband and her daughter, Maureen visited countries all over the world: Europe, the UK, South America, and British Columbia.
Maureen is survived by her husband David, daughter Hope, parents Thomas (Tina)Wasson, and Carol Raymond, sister Cindy Strong (Doug), and many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Viewing will be held at the New Tacoma Cemetery and Funeral Home in University Place, Washington. A Memorial service is planned for early 2024.
