Matthew Russell Kimpel: born August 21, 1975 at Travis Air Force Base, CA, passed away unexpectedly on Feb 21, 2023, at home.
Matthew, attended 1st through 6th grade at Spanaway Elementary School where he was a member of the Spanaway Circus Acrobatic Team. He holds the record for the most consecutive pull ups (147). Wrestling was a big part of Matt's life growing up. He began wrestling freestyle with the Bethel Recreation team at age 6. He continued wrestling for Bethel Rec and for both Spanaway Junior and Senior High Schools. He did very well, competing at State and national levels, with many league championships under his belt. He was awarded Puget Sound Wrestler of the Year in 1991 and 1993, and voted team captain for 3 years. He also played trumpet in the school bands, a gift he passed on to his daughter Nicole.
Matt was a member of the Carpenters Union, Local 41, working commercial construction around the Puget Sound.
On Jan 17th 2008, Matt and Christina had a beautiful baby girl, Nicole. This was the happiest day of his life! He often said, "Nicole is the best thing I have ever done." Matt spent countless hours with Nicole in cheer leading, dance, YMCA sports and sports at school to help her develop confidence, self- esteem and develop an ability to try and experience new things. A truly devoted Dad. He also enjoyed Boating, Water skiing, snow skiing, snowboarding, cliff diving, and hiking trails.
Matt, is survived by his daughter Nicole Kimpel (15), Eric Robuck (21) (Nicole's brother), Christina Schuster (Nicole's Mother), parents James and Carol Kimpel, brothers, James of Puyallup, WA; Dustin and Whittani (Whitaker)Kimpel, Gig Harbor, WA; nieces and nephews, James Austin Kimpel, Puyallup, WA; Rachele Kimpel, Carson, CA; Seanna Kimpel, Spokane, WA; Brayden, Lillian, Peyton and Sophia Ring, Castle Rock CO; many uncles, aunts, cousins and all of Nicole's friends that he cared for as if they were his own. We love you Matthew, thank you for the good times! Matthew was laid to rest at New Tacoma Cemetery, University Place, WA on Mar 7, 2023.
