MaryLee (Coy) Backstein was born on December 26, 1937, in Tacoma, WA. On April 24, 2026, she passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. She was greeted in heaven by her husband, Robert J. Backstein; her parents, Dewey S. Coy and Nida (Wright) Coy; her sister Gloria Barber; and her granddaughter Andrea (Smith) Hudson.

MaryLee's life was defined by her devotion to family and friends. Caring for them brought her immense joy and fulfillment. She enjoyed crafting, planting flowers, providing delicious meals, and endless shopping. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she shared her testimony through lifelong service and unconditional love.

She is survived by her children: Sharon (Mike) Woodhouse, Robin (Ted) Smith, Bob (Sarah) Backstein, Julie Backstein, Jenny (Alan) Thompson, and Mark (Emily) Backstein; 27 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and her sisters: Virginia (Russ) Nickel, Shirley Wright, and Nadine (Reed) King, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

A service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Beckonridge Chapel; 4219 Beckonridge Dr. West, University Place, WA 98466). A viewing will take place from 10:00–10:30 am. Zoom link is available upon request.
