Lorene Mills,
January 14, 1937-December 9, 2023
Lorene Mills, age 86, peacefully passed away on December 9, 2023, surrounded by loved ones in Tacoma, Washington. She was born on January 14, 1937, in West Virginia to Hazel and William Workman, the third of nine children.
She and her loving husband, Guy, resided in University Place for over 60 years. They were high school sweethearts, recently celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary. They raised two daughters, Lynette and Karla.
Lorene led a selfless and full life of philanthropy, travel, and dedication to family. Grammy's grandsons were her pride and joy. For nearly 30 years, she worked with at-risk youth as a para-professional for Tacoma Public Schools. Lorene devoted countless hours to volunteering each week at the UPPC food bank and exercising at the YMCA with her dear girlfriends. She was known for her flair for fashion, the color pink, Rhubarb pie, holiday cookies, love of gardening, sewing, family gatherings, and spoiling her grandsons. After retiring, Guy and Lorene enjoyed two decades of traveling around the world, especially their yearly trips to Kona Hawaii.
Lorene is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Lynette. She leaves behind her loving husband, Guy, daughter, Karla (Richard) Benedetti, grandsons, Brian, and Brad, siblings Ruth, Linda, Dick, Chris, and their spouses, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. We wish to extend a special thank you to the amazing staff at the PULSE Heart Institute at MultiCare.
