Loral Eileen
Smith Morgan
Feb 28, 1928 — Feb 3, 2026
Tumwater
Loral Eileen Smith Morgan, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, passed away Tuesday, February 3, just weeks shy of her 98th birthday. Born in Seattle on February 28, 1928, Loral attended Seattle schools, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1946. She remained a loyal Lincoln alum, keeping in touch with a large circle of high school friends throughout her life.
Loral married her high school sweetheart, Don Morgan, in 1949, and they were married for 62 years. Following Don's service in the Marine Corps, they settled in Tacoma, where they raised their three daughters and lived the rest of their lives. Don and Loral were longtime members of Tacoma First Covenant Church, where Loral was a Sunday School teacher, wedding coordinator, and active in women's ministries.
Loral had a quick wit and playful sense of humor. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time she got to spend with them. She loved holidays and decorated abundantly for all of them, hosting many meticulously prepared holiday meals for family and extended family. She also loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with Don all over the world.
Loral loved nature and taught her daughters to be attentive to all the wonders of the outdoors, large and small, flora and fauna. She kept a camping box packed and ready for the many (sometimes spur-of-the-moment) camping trips she and Don took all over the western United States with their girls. She could keep any plant alive and was gifted at arranging flowers, able to create a beautiful display out of any random assortment of flowers and twigs.
Loral's family includes her three daughters and their families: Georgeann (Fred) Kurtz, Todd (Dana) Kurtz and Brynn, (Cian) Barrett; Eileen (Blaine) Powell, Ian (Anna) Powell and Morgan (Connor) Meehan; Margaret (Gary) Hawkins, Hannah (Evan) Henderson and Haley Hawkins; and an ever-increasing number of great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband Don in 2012.
A memorial service will be held February 27 at New Tacoma Cemeteries Chambers Creek Chapel, 9212 Chambers Creek Rd W, University Place. Visitation will start at 11:00 AM and Funeral service at 12:00 PM. A graveside ceremony will immediately follow.
The family wants to thank the caregivers of Loving Gentle Care Adult Family Home for their loving care and support of Loral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Loral's memory to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
