Lane Seaholm, age 59, of Tacoma, WA, passed away surrounded by family and friends on March 26 ^th , 2023, after a 2 year assault of esophageal cancer. Husband of Emily; Father to Elena, Olivia, Landon, and Liam; friend and beloved colleague of many.

Lane was born in Moline, Illinois on March 5 ^th , 1964. He grew up in Horicon, Wisconsin and graduated from Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin in 1982. He attended your US Air Force Academy graduating in 1986 and later earned his masters degree in international relations. He completed pilot training in 1987 at Laughlin AFB, Texas and was then awarded his first choice of assignment to the C-141 at Charleston AFB, South Carolina.

Lane volunteered for a UN tour in Western Sahara and participated in numerous operations: JUST CAUSE, DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM. His next assignment, and what he referred to as the best job he ever had, was to the C-20A Gulfstream-III at Ramstein, Germany from 1993-1997. Flying around the world, playing soccer with his local German team, skiing and travelling throughout Europe gave him something to talk about for the rest of his life. He returned to the States as the Government Flight Representative to Boeing Aerospace, Long Beach, California where he flew functional and acceptance flights for C-17's as they came out of production. While stationed there, he met and married Emily Dahl in September of 1999. Lane separated from active duty in 2001 and transitioned to the Reserve, joining the 728 ^th Airlift Squadron at McChord Air Force Base, WA.  After the events of Sept 11 ^th, he volunteered for missions supporting INFINITE JUSTICE and ENDURING FREEDOM, and was mobilized from 2003-2005 supporting operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. Lane joined Alaska Airlines as a First Officer in 2005 and culminated his military service in 2011 following a promotion to Colonel and selection as 446 ^th Airlift Wing Vice Commander.  He continued with Alaska Airlines until his retirement as Captain in 2022. Throughout his career he flew a variety of aircraft including the T-41, T-37B, T-38A, C-141B, C-20A, C-17A, MD-80 and B-737, his favorite being the C-17.

Lane had said that being in the Air Force was who he was, how he defined himself. He was a patriot and felt purpose and pride in serving his country. He was also witty, loving and wicked smart - with an endless bank of knowledge that his kids knew held the answer to any question they posed. He was selfless and generous, seizing every opportunity to help others achieve even when it was at his own expense. It was his highest priority and greatest honor to take care of those he loved. He could always be counted on to incite laughter and was often reduced to tears by it as well. His favorite things were vanilla malts, reading, the outdoors, jeopardy, history, and the Green Bay Packers. He loved supporting his kids; especially on the soccer field where his encouragement could be heard in English and German. He whole heartedly supported his family's passions and projects, embracing the chaos and celebrating the final results.

He is survived by his wife, Emily; his children, Elena, Olivia, Landon, and Liam; his parents, Raphael and Virginia Seaholm; and his sister, LeeAnn Seaholm (Lisa Desimon).

Lane's disease took him by surprise, and true to his nature, he did all he could to help those he knew avoid the same experience. If you have any pain or trouble swallowing, he would have encouraged you to seek out an endoscopy.

All who knew and loved Lane are invited to attend his service which will be held at the Chambers Creek Chapel at New Tacoma Funeral Home, 9212 Chambers Creek Rd W, University Place, WA, 98467 on Sunday, April 16 ^th at 11 am. Visitation will begin at 10 am. Memorial will be directed to things Lane cared deeply for; his children's education and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
