In Loving Memory of Kalan Izen

June 8, 1979 – October 7, 2026

A Life of Adventure, Courage, and Love

Kalan Izen was born on June 8, 1979 in Long Beach, CA, and departed this life on October 7, 2026 in Tacoma, WA., at the age of 47, just eight months shy of her 48th birthday.

Although her life ended far too soon, Kalan lived a life rich in experiences, adventure, friendship, and love.

A free spirit with a passion for exploring the world, Kalan traveled extensively throughout Europe and visited nearly every state in America. Among her favorite destinations were Paris, France, and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Yet, of all the beautiful places she discovered, Alaska captured her heart. She eventually divided her time between Alaska and Washington State.

Kalan possessed a rare combination of tenderness and strength. She was sweet-natured, compassionate, and deeply loving, yet fiercely independent, determined, and unwavering in her convictions. She was a powerful advocate for herself, a woman who knew her own mind and was never afraid to stand her ground. When she believed she had been treated unfairly, she did not hesitate to question authority or challenge those in positions of power. She possessed the courage to speak up, the determination to persevere, and the conviction that her voice deserved to be heard.

Kalan understood that kindness did not require silence, and that a gentle spirit could also be a formidable one.

Above all, Kalan cared deeply for her family and friends. Her warmth, generosity, and loving nature touched countless lives. Those who knew her will remember not only her adventurous spirit and fierce determination but also the sweetness and affection she shared so freely.

Kalan leaves behind a wealth of love and cherished memories. Her spirit lives on through her beloved son, Malachj; her devoted mother, Helen; her grandmother, Gloria; her uncle Tony and his wife, Aunt Stephanie; Uncle Frankie; her cousins, Eugene, John, and Phillip; her many, many dear friends; and all those whose lives were blessed by knowing her.

To her mother, Kalan was simply the sweetest human being she had ever known. Her beautiful heart, her adventurous soul, and her remarkable determination will forever remain her legacy.

While we mourn the loss of her physical presence, we celebrate the fullness of her life, the places she explored, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless memories she leaves behind.

May the memories of Kalan's loving heart, fearless spirit, and unwavering determination bring comfort to all who grieve her passing. May her courage remind us to stand firm in our convictions, and may the love she gave so freely continue to live in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Rest peacefully, Kalan. You were deeply loved, and you will be forever missed and never forgotten.
