Joyce Huseby October 13, 1942 – February 19, 2025 Resident of Lakewood, Washington
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Huseby, who left this world peacefully on February 19, 2025, at the age of 82. Joyce was the cherished daughter of Flora and Joe Martinez. She was surrounded by the love of her family throughout her life.
Joyce was born in Hayward, California, and raised in South San Francisco alongside her sister, Marge, and her brother, Joey. She graduated from South San Francisco High School.
Joyce's life was a tapestry of rich experiences. From her early days as a caterer at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco, to her role as Administrative Assistant for the Director of the Tacoma Public Library, Joyce was never one to shy away from a challenge. Her deep interest in her community led her to become a docent for The Historic Homes of Tacoma Tour, where her knowledge and enthusiasm brought local history to life.
Joyce was her own person and lived by her own rules. What started as a shy, slender girl with blond hair and glasses blossomed into a breathtakingly beautiful young woman. She had a unique style, a true appreciation for fashion, and exuded confidence. Whether she was out with friends, walking her dog, or enjoying the simple pleasures of life, Joyce was always put together in the most effortless way.
An avid athlete, Joyce was an accomplished bowler who displayed power and precision every time her bowling ball rolled down the lane. Her love for golf was unmatched—she could readily outplay most on the course.
A survivor of ovarian cancer at an early age, her dogs were her children and she had many throughout her life. She was in love with love and married more than once, but found a deep and enduring connection with Kirk Knutson, who became her devoted life partner.
Joyce inherited her mother's green thumb. Every house she lived in was a sanctuary of beauty. She cultivated beautiful gardens full of life, where the grounds bloomed with magnificent trees, vibrant flowers and lush greenery, creating a peaceful haven for all who visited.
We will miss her hearty, infectious laugh and her beautiful smile. Her love and light will continue to inspire us as we celebrate her life and the joy that she brought to those who were lucky enough to know her as a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
