John Alvin Roberts
May 30, 1932 - December 6, 2024

We deeply mourn the loss of John Roberts who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones.  In the 92 years of his life, John was many things to so many people. He was a son, brother, husband, dad, papa, uncle and friend. John's life can be told in many chapters and woven throughout were integrity, dedication, and a never failing kindness.

John was born in Carrollton, Georgia to Reverend Willie E. Roberts and Cleo Hayes.
One of eight siblings, his early years were filled with church, school and jobs that fostered his lifelong love of automobiles. John also spent time in Warren, Ohio with his eldest brother's family.  At the age of 19, he was drafted into the US Army and he began his military career in Korea in 1952, serving during the active conflict.  His 21 years of service took him to Alaska where he amassed over 2,000 miles of cross country skiing, multiple tours to Germany, and a short deployment to the Republic of the Congo.

While stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA in 1969, he met his wife Karin of over 50 years. They were blessed with a daughter, and then son-in-law and two granddaughters all of who became such a huge focus of his life.

Following his military service, John spent 26 years working for the USPS Seattle Distribution Center in Federal Way. Always known for his strong work ethic and ready smile, he made a lasting impact on those he served and worked with.

Throughout most of his life, John was filled with endless energy befitting someone years younger.  His love of travel continued into retirement with cruises taking him to Iceland, the Caribbean, and Central America, to name just a few. He was a loyal fan of local sports, watching many Mariners games and as a season ticket holder for the Seattle Seahawks for over 30 years.  As a member of the South Sound Seahawkers Booster Club, John continued to serve the local community.

Family meant everything to John. He looked forward to repeated road trips to Georgia, Ohio, and California, spending many months each year in the latter to be close to his loved ones.

Left to grieve him are his wife Karin, his daughter Andrea (J Stephen) Zdunek, granddaughters Alyse and Nora, his youngest brother Orville Roberts and countless nieces & nephews along with cherished friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Clifford Elmer Roberts, Willie Thomas Roberts, Lester Roberts, Clastel Helen Kight, Mary Nell Jones, and Samuel A. Roberts.

His memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025.  A reception will follow.
