Obituary

Janice (Janie) was born in a farmhouse near St. John, Rolette County, North Dakota.  she was the youngest of eight children born to Earl S. Krook Sr. and Bertha L. (Carpenter) Krook.  At the age of one year, Janice and her family moved to Northern California, settling in Humboldt County.  Janice attended the Old Field Elementary School in Fields Landing and graduated from Eureka High School in 1960.  Janice married Alan (Al or Dave) D. Kivela Sr., who was in the United States Coast Guard.  Al passed away on May 17, 2013.

Surviving Janice is her daughter, Kristi L. (Kivela) Williams, her son, Alan D. Kivela Jr. and her grandchildren Erica K. Crittendon and Joshua N. Williams.  Janice is also survived by her sister, Linda L. Richards and several nieces and nephews, all of whom she held dear to her heart.

Janice was also pre-deceased by her sisters Beryl Lillian Krook, Betty Blackford, Kay Ann Krook and Jewell King-Pollock as well as her brothers, Earl S. Krook Jr. (Buck or Bucky) and Denis A. Krook.

During her married life, Janice lived in different parts of the United States, including Cape May, New Jersey and Uncasville, Connecticut as well as Astoria and at the Cape Blanco Lighthouse in Oregon.  She also lived in Tokeland, WA.  Janice lived in Des Moines, Washington for 22 years, where she worked for Highline School District.  She had been residing in Tacoma, Washington for the past 22 years.

Growing up, Janice enjoyed camping amongst the redwood trees, swimming in the rivers and breathing in the air of the ocean beaches of Northern California.

Janice wrote her own obituary. Her family would like to add that she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, family was so important to her. She is deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

At Janice's request, there will be no formal service.  Her family will hold an inurnment at New Tacoma Cemetery on January 21st at 2PM, all are welcome to attend.
