James Zook

Devoted husband, caring father, adoring grandpa and great-grandpa, and friend, James Zook passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on July 31, 2025, in Puyallup, Washington.

Born in Coeur d'Alene, ID, he moved to Tacoma in 1944 and graduated from Lincoln High School. After serving in the Army for two years, he came home and married the girl next door, Goldine (Hart), which lasted only 55 years until her passing in 2003. James and Goldine raised 6 children in their South Tacoma home and were members of Lincoln Park and McKinley Park Christian Churches. He was married to Alice (Carlisle) 2004 - 2010 until her passing and was currently married to Jeanie Holloway.

James was an avid car "nut" and restored and repaired many cars over the years. If you needed a brake job, just bring the new brake pads over, and he would do it for you. He was also a baseball lover and a huge Mariners fan. He loved Mom's cooking, and his favorites included fried chicken, lemon meringue pie, liver & onions, apple dumplings, and breaded veal.

He worked many years as a furniture finisher/sprayer at Northwest Chair, Church Interiors, and Rainier Woodworking. He finished up working at Gibson's Florist & Nursery, providing a smile with every delivery.

James loved family and the Lord and walked with and served the Lord every day. He will always be remembered for his selfless acts of kindness and love for others.

James is preceded by his son David (Earlene) Zook and is survived by daughters Cherie (Scott) Caulley and Denyce (Rick) Holt, and sons   Michael (Diana) Zook, Earl (Liz) Zook, and Troy (Linda) Zook. In addition, he has 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren.
