Huy Hoang was born on March 2nd, 1998 in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2000, he moved to the U.S. with his parents and grew up in Steilacoom, Washington, later becoming an older brother to two younger sisters. He graduated from Steilacoom High School in 2016, and simultaneously partook in the Running Start program at Pierce College. He was a captain of the high school cross-country team, and he also worked as a peer tutor during his junior and senior years, assisting students in calculus and statistics. Afterwards, he attended University of Washington Seattle, where he developed a strong interest in biology while on the pre-med track, and he graduated in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. Huy became a medical student at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona in 2020. Concurrently, he earned the full ride Air Force HPSP scholarship and went through several officer training sessions, resulting in his commission as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

Throughout his life, Huy was incredibly thoughtful and kind to those around him. His presence was quiet and steady in any room he walked into. He listened intently during conversations, and always gave meaningful advice or good-humored jokes. From early on, he exhibited remarkable maturity, never hesitating to put others before himself. He had a way of teaching others patiently while also empowering them, a subtle and appreciative talent.

Being the oldest child, Huy was a leader when it came to facing new and challenging experiences during his educational journey, but he faced them with grace and rose above by always staying true to who he was. He continuously worked hard in his studies, inspiring his younger siblings and hoping to give back to his parents and community. His perseverance and determination are truly inspiring, especially as he retained these qualities throughout his cancer treatment.

Huy loved the outdoors, and could be found biking or running on local trails. He also had a deep appreciation for cars and technology, particularly the fine details unique to each model and the functionality of them all. These interests mirrored the way he lived his life, with thoughtful elegance as he gave his full love and energy for his passions and the people around him.

Huy passed away on December 12th, 2023, after a two-year battle with cancer. Throughout his treatment, he remained resilient and endured his situation with courage. His strength of character is truly admirable and an example of how we must face our obstacles with the same determination.

Huy is survived by his parents, Hai and Huong, and his younger sisters, Cindy and Stephanie. Huy's family would like to express their gratitude to all of their friends and relatives for their comfort and support as well as the following healthcare facilities: Seattle Children's Hospital, Fred Hutch Cancer Center, University of Washington Medical Center, St. Joseph Medical Center, and Providence Hospice of Seattle.

As we say goodbye to an amazing son, brother, and friend, we hope that our shared memories will live on in the lives of the people he touched. Huy will be loved and remembered in our hearts forever.
