Hildegard Carter, 96, of Steilacoom, WA, peacefully passed away in her sleep on August 22, 2023.

Born on February 16, 1927, in Erlensee, Germany, Hildegard was the daughter of Heinrich and Emilie Morschel.

Hildegard is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie, and son, William. She is survived by her granddaughter, Shellie; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Devoting much of her time to volunteerism, Hildegard selflessly contributed to the Steilacoom Community Center, Mealsite, Fisher House, and was an active member of the Gold Star Wives.

During her leisure hours, Hildegard found joy in gardening, playing bingo at the Community Center, engaging in word search puzzles, and was an avid reader.

Her life's journey spanned 96 years – from a young heart enduring the shadows of wartime to a spirit of unwavering strength, she left an indelible mark on all who knew her. As we say our farewells, we find solace in knowing that her resilience and determination have guided her to a place of eternal peace.

A funeral service will be held at New Tacoma Cemetery on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM with refreshments to follow.
