Obituary

Gerald Wallace Scherer Sr., born on June 24, 1951, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025. He was the beloved son of Wally and Sylvia Scherer and grew up with his brothers, Ron and Tim, in West Seattle, where he attended Chief Sealth High School.

Gerald dedicated his life to the grocery business, working 50 years in the industry and managing numerous stores throughout the Puget Sound region. He concluded his career at the Parkland QFC, where his presence left a lasting impression—so much so that, even years later, shoppers would still recognize and greet him warmly.

A kind and generous man, Gerald was known for going out of his way to help others—a rare and admired quality. He cherished the moments spent gathering family for backyard barbecues and took great pride in preparing his special Sunday egg bake, a tradition that brought warmth and joy to all who shared it. His homemade salsa was another family favorite—bold, flavorful, and unforgettable, just like him.

In retirement, his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was an avid golfer and found peace and happiness at the family cabin, a place filled with treasured memories. He especially enjoyed bonding with his son Jason over their shared love of golf.

Gerald was blessed to witness his son Gerald Jr.'s wedding less than a year before his passing and to meet his newest grandchild just a month before he left us. These moments brought him immense pride and joy.

He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 41 years, Marion; his sons, Gerald Scherer Jr. (wife Breanne) and Jason Stutzke (wife Stacey); and his treasured grandchildren—Emmaline, Kenadie, Dakota, Darren, and Jayla—who brought light to his life; his mother, Sylvia Scherer; and his brothers, Ron and Tim. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

His humor and laugh will be greatly missed by his family. He's golfing with Wally on heaven's fairway now.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 28, at Party House (772 S 38th St, Tacoma, WA 98401) from noon to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude's in his name.
