Georgia Ann Sweitzer 1935-2023

Georgia Ann Sweitzer nee Ellingson, 88, departed this life at Easthaven Villa Assistant Living & Memory Care, Yelm, WA on Wednesday, November 8th after a brief illness.

Born April 21, 1935 in Tacoma, WA. She attended Stadium High School and after graduation, she waited for her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Herbert Lester Sweitzer, to return from serving in the Korean War. They married and relocated to Puyallup where she was a housewife and mother to her son, Keith.

In 1971, she became employed by the Puyallup School Transportation Bus Services Company in the Puyallup District. Georgia was instrumental in helping establish SEIU Local 1948 for their district. She reaped the benefits of her perseverance and labor for over 15 years.

Georgia was a very social person who kept in constant contact with the many friends she made over the years. In addition to being an avid reader, she was a good cook. Nothing pleased her more than delivering her homemade cookies and fudge to friends during the Christmas Holidays.

Georga was predeceased by her mother, Leona Ellingson, and her loving husband of 61 years, Herbert Sweitzer (Herb). She is survived by her only child Keith (Elaine) Sweitzer, of Nanuet, NY; granddaughter Chelsea Sweitzer of Tacoma, WA; one brother Steven (Marcia) Ellingson of Yelm, WA, and one niece Ashley (Don) Taylor of Moses Lake, WA.

The family extends their deepest gratitude and thanks for the wonderful care and comfort given to Georgia by the staff at Easthaven Villa Assistant Living & Memory Care and New Tacoma Cemeteries and Funeral Home for arrangements.
