Obituary

Gene Hansen Sorgenfrei, born April 24, 1936 on the Home Farm in Palmer, Nebraska, passed away September 1, 2022.  He was the son of Peter Hansen Sorgenfrei and Lydia Katherine Von Aschwege.

Gene graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA and attended the University of Washington, where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering.  He earned his P.E. license in 1966.  He spent the majority of his career working for the Boeing Company, retiring after 47 years.  He had the privilege of relocating to England, Germany, Belgium, and Japan with AWACS programs.  Gene always said his favorite program was "Safeguard EMP" where he met his wife.

Gene was a 49 year resident of "Shorewood on the Sound" where he spent many happy hours watching the eagles soar.  He enjoyed the last years of his retirement receiving his Amateur Radio License and cruising around the world with family and friends.  His last cruise was in May of this year.

Gene is survived by his wife of 49 years, Charlene; sons Darren and Matthew; and granddaughter Gabrielle.  He will be loved and remembered always by his honesty, integrity, and hard work.

Private services were held at New Tacoma Cemetery, where he was laid to rest near his mom and dad.
