With gratitude for a life shaped by hard work, service, and a deep love of the outdoors, we celebrate Frederick E. Benedict, who passed away on September 17, 2026, in Tacoma, Washington, at the age of 65.

Born on June 28, 1961, Frederick built a life rooted in dedication and steady commitment. He attended Lincoln High School and later served in the United States Army for 10 years. In his working life, he was a driver for paratransit and worked as a groundskeeper at Joint Base Lewis-McChord—roles that reflected the reliability and effort he brought to each day.

Known to many as Fred, he found lasting joy in the natural world. Hiking, kayaking, hunting, fishing, and camping were among the pursuits that brought him happiness, and nature remained one of the great themes of his life. He especially loved eagles and enjoyed time spent outdoors whenever he could. He was also a fan of western movies, with John Wayne holding a special place as his favorite.

Frederick's life was shared with his wife, Jane; his son, Jack; his daughter-in-law, Lauren; and his grandsons, Brody, Brock, and Blake. He is also remembered by his brother Bill and sister-in-law Deb; his sister Chriss; his brother Rob; and his sister Sheryl and brother-in-law Wes.

A service to honor Frederick E. Benedict will be held at New Tacoma Cemetery on October 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

Frederick's life will be remembered in the places he loved most: under open skies, along the water, on woodland trails, and in the simple pleasure of a favorite western. His story leaves behind a legacy of service, family, and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.
