Florence Ann Dorfner September 8, 1934 – September 8, 2026

Florence Ann Dorfner, lovingly known as “Flossy” to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, at Franciscan Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 8, 1934, at Tacoma General Hospital. At the age of 12, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at Asbury Methodist Church, beginning a lifelong journey of faith.

Florence met Gerald while attending Grey Junior High, and both later graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1954. After Gerald completed Army boot camp, the two were married in 1955. Florence later joined him in Japan, where they spent two and a half years together before returning to Tacoma to establish their home and begin their family.

Florence and Gerald welcomed three children: their firstborn, Richard, followed by Tim and Jeri Lyn. Florence was a devoted mother and homemaker who expressed her love through cooking, baking, crocheting, and knitting afghans. She took great pride in nurturing her flowers and creating beautiful spaces that brought color and joy into her home and garden. She also loved decorating indoors, changing her surroundings with the seasons. Her home reflected her creativity, warmth, and attention to detail, making everyone who entered feel comfortable and welcomed.

She enjoyed camping, spending time at the ocean, salmon fishing, and digging razor clams. Traveling to California brought her much happiness, especially the cherished memories made with family. For many years, Florence faithfully served in the kitchen at her beloved Praise Covenant Church, preparing meals and supporting her church family.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Alvin Roberts; her brother, Wally Roberts; her husband of 62 wonderful years, Gerald Dorfner; and her son, Richard Dorfner. She is survived by her sister, Lynn Thomas; her son Tim and his wife Neica; her daughter Jeri Lyn Suthers and her husband Don; along with eight precious grandchildren and eighteen great‑grandchildren.

Strong in her Christian faith, Florence now rests in peace with her Savior.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Praise Covenant Church, 3501 S. Orchard St., Tacoma, WA 98466.
