As we lay our beloved Faye to rest, we are blessed to have loving and fun memories of her life. Faye Etta Neal-Stewart was born on April 3, 1939, to Curtis and Ellie Neal in Yoakum, Texas. Being the third of four children and the only daughter gave her some special privileges; yet, she greatly admired her brothers. She was par-raised by the village of relatives and community friends whose principles helped shape her compassionate, resilient, and loving attributes.

August 13, 1961, marked a "special year!" Willie, the love of her life, was in the military at Ft. Lewis; he returned home for a summer visit, they married, and Faye joined her husband in Tacoma, Washington. Excited happenings occurred: a son, Willie, Jr., and a daughter, Collette, were born. Faye started her career journey teaching reading at Reed Elementary and later spent the majority of teaching years with second graders at Stanley. She was happily devoted to those little students and found great personal satisfaction watching them become independent learners; she ended her career at Whittier Elementary after working for Tacoma School District for 31 years. The "art of teaching" was her epithet! She fondly enjoyed writing, Scrabble, drawing, bingo, and dancing. Faye Etta faithfully attended athletic events involving Willie and Collette. She truly loved watching selected television programs and was very serious about her doll collections. Faye became a member of Alpha Kappa Sorority and co-chaired the successful Reading is Fundamental program but later became inactive to focus on raising her young family. She remained supportive of "AKA", Urban League, NAACP, United Way, and her church, Urban Grace (formerly First Baptist Church).

Faye Stewart was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Curtis Neal Jr. Left to cherish her memories are her husband-Willie, Sr., son-Willie, Jr. (Janet), daughter-Collette, Granddaughter-Joy, great-grandson-Kai, brothers-Augustus Neal (Ola), James B. Neal of Texas, sisters-in law-Margie Berry and Hazel Fredericks, nieces-Sammie Robinson and Sharon Robinson, a nephew-Victor Neal, other relatives, and favorite, loyal friends.
