Evelyn (Eve) Maxwell Cory

Eve passed away at age 80 in Tacoma, WA, on January 21, 2024. Evelyn Dalton Maxwell was born on May 30, 1943, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She married the love of her life, Roger Cory, on December 1, 1990, at St. Luke's Memorial Episcopal Church in Tacoma. Eve was the eldest child of William and Elizabeth (Knox) Maxwell. The Maxwells immigrated to the U.S. in 1950, arriving in Tacoma on New Year's Day 1951 to start their new life with family.

Eve graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1962, and went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Washington. She spent 17 years as an insurance adjuster, and then spent 8 years as a claims and risk manager and as a paralegal. Eve lived in Seattle for many years before returning home to Tacoma.

Friends and family knew Eve as wonderfully creative with a particular gift for sewing. Eve designed a little something for everyone in her life - many throw pillows for Roger made out of his old dress shirts and ties, a clever werewolf Halloween costume for her niece, and a beautiful altar cover for the children's chapel at St. Luke's. Eve also enjoyed hosting parties, as well as remodeling and decorating the number of different homes she shared with Roger.

Eve was an avid reader and deeply passionate about ancient history, spending hours learning about archaeology and ancient civilizations, and sharing these stories with those around her. Eve and Roger also had many opportunities to travel after they married, going on many trips for Roger's work and finding time for trips they planned together. Eve was especially grateful for their trips to Ireland, where they marveled at the scenery, explored the history (which Eve likely enjoyed more than Roger), and connected with family.

Eve was a member of St. Luke's Memorial Episcopal Church and appreciated the church fellowship.  Eve was involved with the altar guild, the crafters' group, and the annual Christmas bazaar.  Eve also spent time as a member of the OBI women's investment group and in a book club with friends.

Eve was preceded in death by her husband Roger and her parents. She is survived by Roger's two children Rod (Kelly) Cory and Julie (Jeff) Seidel, as well as their four grandchildren Justin, Katie, Maddie and Allison.  She also leaves behind three siblings, David (Sue) Maxwell, Kevin (Susan) Maxwell and Erin (Wes) Hanssen. Eve will be missed by nephew Craig, nieces Alex (Josh) and Piper, great-nephew William and many friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Memorial Episcopal Church on Friday, February 23, at 2pm. All friends and family are invited to join to remember Eve. In lieu of flowers, donations will be welcomed at St. Luke's Memorial Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.
