Obituary

On January 20th, 2024, at the age of 95, Edward Lee Samuels passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.  Edward was born on September 21, 1928, in Hosston, Louisiana to Sye Sr and Lilly Samuels. He was the middle child of six children. Edward would gain a strong work ethic at a young age due to his mother passing away when he was a young boy.  His father was out of the home constantly working, so Edward would become a vital part in the care of his siblings. Through his will to survive, he learned how to cook, tend to, and fulfill the needs of his siblings. This would become the fabric and foundation of his character.

Edward demonstrated his love for his family by cooking his famous southern dishes like fried fish, country-style ribs, "Rice-a-Roni, mixed vegetables, fried pork chops, and of course his famous hot water cornbread. He was the greatest Paw Paw to his grandchildren always willing to offer wisdom and a listening ear- he would say "if you have time to tell it, I've got time to listen!" His great-grandchildren will cherish the tender memories of Paw Paw endlessly supplying them with cookies and popsicles, and being a trusted babysitter who would rock them to sleep while singing "The Bear Went Over the Mountain". We thank God for giving us a father and grandfather who was generous and supportive and taught us how to prioritize family and hard work.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents Sye Sr and Lilly Samels, brothers Sye Jr and Joe, and sisters Bea and Ruth. He leaves to cherish his memory of his youngest sister Marie Rhynes. He is survived by his two daughters, Nazmye (Dwayne) and Tiffany, bonus son – Antione, his grandchildren DeAndre Sr (Dionne), DaVeon (Rosetta), NayTesha (Thaddeus), Brieya, Reghan, Ryan, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
