Dorothy Louise McMillan (Kahn) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family October 24th, 2025, at 86 years old in Tacoma, Washington. She was born February 13, 1939, in Malta, Montana, to George and Lillian Kahn.

Dorothy was the youngest of five kids. She loved her siblings: George "Sonny" Kahn, Betty (Kahn) Farris, Carol (Kahn) Schlegel, and Delores Kahn. Dorothy reflected that with four sisters, her brother George had four 'extra moms.'

She spent much of her childhood and early elementary years living with her grandparents, August and Helen Evenson, who lived in the Swan Valley of Montana. When her mother Lillian remarried to Clarence Atteberry, Dorothy rejoined her family and enjoyed many years in Kalispel, MT.

Dorothy married her husband Robert "Bob" McMillan in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on November 26, 1954, and together they raised a family with five children: Vennie Jo, Bruce, Colin, Terry "Marty," and Janice. Dorothy and Bob lived in Kalispell, MT; Missoula, MT; Whitefish, MT; then Milpitas, CA, where her children spent much of their formative years; and finally, to Tacoma, WA, to follow Bob's work with the cable companies. Dorothy often reminisced about summer road trips from California back to Montana for family vacations and the KOA campsites they stayed at along with staying overnight with sister Betty's family during the three-day road trip.

Dorothy worked hard throughout her life. She'd often tell stories of her time selling—with the help of her children—Avon and the many friendships she formed with her clients along the way. She enjoyed her time working at Standard Brands in Tacoma and the good deals she got when they were closing; A&H Pharmacy with her best friend Wilma Avellar; and Safeway Pharmacy, where she retired.

She tragically lost both daughters—Vennie Jo at age 3 and Janice at age 27—and she lost her husband at age 60 to cancer. Through many significant trials over the years, Dorothy's faith in God grew, and she enjoyed attending her local church.

Above all else, she loved spending time with her family and was ever-present in their lives. Volunteering as a den mom to her son's Cub Scout pack and in the Jaycees. She said this was a highlight of her life because it gave her an opportunity to spend more time with her family. As her children married, she devoted herself to her grandchildren as they filled her life one after another.

She cherished her annual family reunion vacations at her mom and stepdad's cabin on Little Bitterroot Lake near Kalispell, MT. She could often be found making chocolate chip pancakes for her children, later grand and great grandchildren in the morning, chatting up family who came to visit, or sitting on the porch swing overlooking the lake watching her children and grandchildren play in the water during the afternoon or the purple hues of the sunset in the evening. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, cousin, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her husband Bob of Tacoma, WA; and daughters Vennie Jo McMillan of Missoula, MT, and Janice Amato of Tacoma, WA. She is survived by sons Bruce McMillan of Tacoma, WA; Colin (Sandi) McMillan of Ferndale, WA; and Terry "Marty" (Jenni) McMillan of Tacoma, WA. Her grandchildren include Joshua (Jessica) Amato of Sammamish, WA; Daniel (Sarah) McMillan of Tacoma, WA; Samuel (Stevie) McMillan of Houston, TX; Joseph (Linzie) Amato of Spokane, WA; Maxwell McMillan of Tacoma, WA; Hannah Hughes of San Diego, CA; Nathan Hughes of Seattle, WA; Liam McMillan of Ferndale, WA; and Thomas McMillan of Ferndale, WA. Great-grandchildren include Toni McMillan, Hallie McMillan, and Lacey McMillan of Houston, TX, and Robert "Bobby" Amato and Everly Amato of Spokane, WA. Dorothy remained close to, and is survived by, her cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as her sister-in-law Gladyce Secord of Columbia Falls, MT, and sister-in-law Carla Kahn of Swan Lake, MT.
