DeEtte Slater Johnson

May 21, 1941 – July 24, 2025

With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of DeEtte Slater Johnson, who died peacefully on July 24, 2025, at the age of 84, surrounded by her family.

DeEtte was born on May 21, 1941, in Tacoma, Washington, to James and Dorothy Slater. She graduated from Stadium High School and later attended the University of Puget Sound, where she was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Over the years, she served in many roles, most notably working alongside her husband Nick in his orthodontic practice and helping manage the family's boat company and farm.

DeEtte will be fondly remembered for her love of the outdoors, her adventurous spirit, and above all, her unwavering devotion to her husband, Nick. She found great joy in caring for the many birds they raised together on their farm in Auburn. One of her proudest accomplishments was visiting all seven continents—a testament to her curiosity and zest for life.

She is survived by her daughter, Nadine, sister Joyce, and four grandchildren: Emmett, Grace, Hunter, and Adrianna, as well as many beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Nicholas Arnold Johnson, and her son, Trigve Arnold Johnson.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9th, at 1:00 p.m. at New Tacoma Cemetery, with a small reception to follow on-site. All who knew and loved DeEtte are warmly invited to attend and celebrate her life.
