David John Lasater, O.D., passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, in Seattle, Washington. He leaves a profound legacy of family devotion, military service, Christian faith, and community care. David was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, retired Army Major, and trusted local optometrist.

Early Life and Education

David was born at Vancouver Memorial Hospital in Vancouver, Washington, on September 26, 1961, to Audrey Lucille (Spencer) and Neil Johnathan Lasater. He spent 20 years in the Camas-Washougal area, attending St. John's Presbyterian Church and earning the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 308. His youth hobbies included little league, model cars, wrestling, and trail riding on motorcycles. After graduating from Camas High School, he attended Clark Community College in Vancouver and Washington State University (WSU) before earning his Doctor of Optometry degree in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating from the Southern Collage of Optometry.

Life, Faith, and Service

An avid Pacific Northwest outdoorsman, David loved hiking, camping, fishing, boating, skiing, carpentry, and tending to his 17-acre property on Harstine Island. In 1997, he married the love of his life, Lucinda. They settled in Steilacoom, Washington, where they raised their six children, anchoring their home and marriage in their shared Christian faith. David was a remarkably devoted family man, famously buying fresh flowers for Lucinda every week from Crane's Creations. Following her heartbreaking passing in 2017, David became the cornerstone of strength for his growing family. Professionally, Dr. Lasater was a partner at The Visual Connection, practicing in Bremerton and Belfair. He also proudly served his country as an Army officer, retiring as a Major, and served as a deacon at Bridge Community Church.

Family Legacy

David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucinda Lasater, and is now reunited with her in heaven. He is survived by his mother, Audrey Lucille Lasater Lenzie, and her husband Don Lenzie (Camas-Vancouver, WA); and his sister, Linda Mott, and her husband Thomas (Ocean Shores, WA).

His memory lives on through his six children and their families: Sunshine Eversull and husband Nathan Hicks; Dawn Anderson and husband Jeffrey; Joy (Holly) Olmstead; Merry Mathison; Ethan Lasater; and Shannon Lasater. He is survived by eleven grandchildren: Destiny Balcom, Sav (Savannah) Eversull, Aaron, Lara, and Ru Olmstead, Tristen, Trenton, and Marissa Mathison, Amelia Lasater, and April and Orion Anderson; and two great-grandchildren: Milo Balcom and an anticipated great-grandchild of Lara Olmstead. He is further survived by his niece, Amanda; nephews, Jordan and Thomas III; aunts Margorie Falkenberg (Vancouver, WA) and Alice Campbell (Albany, OR); uncle Al Mason (Blaine, WA); cousins John, Jerry, Jeffrey, Patty, Sandy, and Jim.
