On September 27, 2025, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, David A. Hobbs passed away in Olympia, WA, at the age of 88.

David was born on April 21, 1937, in Ft. Peck, MT, to Ralph and Vera Hobbs. His childhood took him through Cody, WY, Bremerton, WA, and ultimately Tacoma, WA, where he attended Lincoln High School and played both baseball and basketball. At just 17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served for three years at Point Mugu, CA.

In 1958, he married Darlene Ressler, and over the next few years was blessed with two sons, Lane and Jay.  After his service, David worked a variety of jobs—including once saving a professional wrestler's life while bartending—before earning an electronics certification and starting his career with Lockheed Martin in California. Following a transfer and eventual layoff, David returned to Washington, where he worked for the railroad and in construction before beginning a long and respected career at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1962. He retired after 30 years as a Nuclear Refueling Supervisor.

In 1970, David married LaVerne Christian, who had three of her own children, Linda, Steve, and Kelle. After retiring, David and LaVerne moved to Fox Island, where they hosted countless reunions, holidays, and Fourth of July celebrations. David enjoyed raising cows and sheep, feeding the resident deer and savoring life by the water. After LaVerne's passing in 2002, David found companionship and joy with Carter, traveling often and cherishing time together.

David loved life's simple pleasures: coffee with neighbors, reading the newspaper cover to cover, following the stock market, and tinkering on his Kubota tractor. Summer days often found him on the patio, radio tuned to 106.1, a diet soda in hand. A lifelong car enthusiast, his final red Mustang GT was his pride and joy.

In 2013, David was diagnosed with dementia. He continued to live independently until 2021, when he moved to Olympia to be closer to family.

David is survived by his sisters, Alice and Beverly; son Lane (Christine); daughters Linda and Kelle (Joe); seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife LaVerne, and sons Jay and Steve.
