G.E. Craig Doupé, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend died peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, in Tacoma, Washington, at the age of 86.

Born in Seaview, Craig grew up in Ilwaco before attending St. Michael's University Preparation College in Victoria, British Columbia. At 16, he enrolled at the University of Washington and was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. While at the University of Washington, he met and later married Joan, the mother of his two cherished daughters, Stephanie and Debbie. Craig later married Rosemary and incorporated her children into his family, becoming their much-loved "Father Figure."

After graduation, Craig accepted a commission in the U.S. Army and was stationed for two years in Germany. After his return to Seattle, he attended the University of Washington Law School—solidifying his life-long devotion to both the law and Husky football.

Craig was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in 1966 and worked in private practice in Seattle for many years before joining the Washington Public Power Supply System (Energy Northwest). During his years at the Supply System, he rose to the position of Chief Legal Counsel before retiring in 1995.

Craig became even busier after retirement. He worked as an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and regularly volunteered for the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association, where he received the Pro Bono Award in 2007. He also served as a mediator for the then Washington State Personnel Appeals Board.

Craig served with numerous boards, advisory panels, and community and professional commissions. Some of these volunteer organizations included the Center for Wooden Boats (earning a lifetime membership award), the WSBA Judicial Recommendation Committee, and the Episcopal Commission of the Priesthood. He was a founder and served as board president for the Richland Light Opera Company. He founded the Paralegal Program at Columbia Basin College in Pasco. Finally, in following his love for dogs, Craig served numerous years as President for the Whidbey Island Kennel Club and with the Great Dane Club of Western Washington.

When not working, Craig was an avid outdoorsman who carried a five-digit REI card most of his adult life. With his devoted wife, companion, and best friend, Rosemary, he hiked, beachcombed, sailed, and kayaked throughout Washington and Canada. Their adventures included hiking the Pacific Northwest Trail, a task that involved scrambling over boulders and scaling rope ladders—pictures of which would later both impress and horrify their adult children. With a gift from his children, Craig even built his own wooden double kayak.

Never one to pass up a side road or a less traveled highway, Craig was always curious about what was over the next rise: whether it was following the back road to a remote local winery, traveling a forgotten logging road in the Cascades, or even following an armadillo deep into in the Mississippi backwoods. Regardless of what form it took, he was always up for an adventure. One cherished adventure was to Ireland where he had a chance to visit his father's boyhood home and indulge in his affinity for Guinness and Celtic music.

His was a life well-lived and well-loved. Devoted and loving to his family and friends, his kindness, generosity, curiosity, and love are deeply instilled and mimicked by his family.

Craig will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Rosemary; siblings Robert (Dianne) and David (Beverly Anne) Doupé; daughters Stephanie (Hal) Clark, Debbie Doupé, Linda (Kevin) Dalton, and Rustynne (Sean) Dalton; sons Mark (Patty) and Tim Dalton; grandchildren Daniel, Rebecca, Peter, Sarah, Amanda, Phillip, Andrew and Tyler, and their spouses and children. His absence is already felt by his dog companion of almost 14 years, Doogan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pacific Crest Trail Association and St. Michael's University Preparation College. A service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, April 2 at 4:00 PM for family and friends at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lakewood, Washington with a reception immediately following.
