In Loving Memory of Colonel Stephen A. Danner

Stephen A. Danner was born on September 7, 1949, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Evelyn and Harry Danner. Raised in a military family, Stephen's early life was shaped by service and resilience. His family eventually settled in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, where he attended Mountlake Terrace High School. It was there he met his lifelong sweetheart, Karen Whitney.

Stephen and Karen married in 1969 while he was attending Washington State University. A proud graduate of WSU, Stephen went on to serve his country with distinction in a 28-year military career, ultimately attaining the respected rank of Colonel. During his service, he also earned his Master's degree, reflecting his commitment to excellence and growth.

Following his military retirement, Stephen continued to serve others in a second career as a financial advisor. Eventually, he fully retired to enjoy a life rich with travel and adventure alongside Karen.

Stephen lived an active and vibrant life. He enjoyed running, competing in triathlons, hiking, snorkeling, and embracing the outdoors. Hawaii held a special place in his heart—especially O'ahu, where he and Karen spent six weeks each year. He loved sharing his favorite spots with family and friends, always making each visit memorable.

Known for his warmth and generosity, Stephen had a gift for connecting with people. He built lasting friendships and, alongside Karen, took great care in nurturing relationships—always checking in, offering thoughtful gestures, and spreading love and kindness.

Colonel Stephen A. Danner passed away on April 20, 2026, after a courageous battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer. The speed and severity of the illness remain difficult to comprehend, especially given his strength and vitality. Through it all, Stephen remained devoted to Karen, always focused on protecting and caring for her. You did good, Steve. As promised, we will take care of her.

Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Karen L. Whitney Danner. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Douglas Danner. He also leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Stephen's legacy of service, love, and generosity will live on in all who knew him.
