Col. Donald R. Moffitt, MD. was born on October 8, 1948 in Shreveport, Louisiana to James W. Moffitt and Eleanor (Prucha) Moffitt.

The family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1951 where he attended public schools in Fort Collins, graduating from Fort Collins High school in 1966.  While in college at Colorado State University he met his bride-to-be, Sharon McMahon, also from Fort Collins.  They were married on September 6, 1969.

In 1970, Don entered medical school in Denver at CU, graduating in 1974.  He then entered a residency program at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in general pediatrics.  His sons, Patrick (1974) and Michael (1976) were born at Fitzsimons.

The family spent two years in Littleton, Massachusetts while Don served at Fort Devins before returning to Fitzsimons to complete a fellowship in pediatric pulmonology.

He served as a general pediatrician in Greeley, Colorado from 1984 to 1987, at which time he rejoined the military and was assigned duty at Madigan Army Medical Center in Washington State where he served the rest of his professional life until his retirement in 2017 as a pulmonary pediatrician.

He was honored to care for the children of our troops, and he thoroughly enjoyed teaching and mentoring young residents.

In his spare time, he enjoyed nothing more than playing his guitar and singing in a local community band known originally as DOA and later as Half a Mind—a nod to his wry wit.  It was his delight to see both of his sons continue his musical legacy.

He was a faithful follower of Christ and contributing member of University Place Presbyterian Church for over 37 years and was peacefully promoted to Glory on Aug 20, 2025.

He survived by his wife, Sharon, his son, Pat (Mona) and their beautiful daughters, Gwendolyn and Vivien; and his son Mike (Katie) and their beautiful daughter, Sophia along with countless dozens of loving extended family members.
