Charles "Charlie" James Dedrick Jr.
July 20, 1949 – March 18, 2025
Charles James Dedrick Jr. was born in Albany, New York on July 20, 1949 and was called home to God on March 18, 2025 at the age of 75. Charlie was the eldest of four children to Charles James Dedrick Sr. and Elizabeth Dora Dedrick.
Charlie joined the United States Army in 1967 and served in combat during the Vietnam War. During his 20 year military service, he earned numerous military distinctions, medals, and awards. While stationed in South Korea, he met the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Chonghui "Kim." Charlie and Kim traveled the world together and welcomed four daughters along the way.
After Charlie retired from active duty, he took up several hobbies over the years, like scuba diving, sailing, wood work, playing golf, and even quilting! He also enjoyed cooking for his family and even submitted a video audition for The Next Food Network Star on Food Network! Charlie had an affinity for firearms. He collected and traded guns and enjoyed the firing range. Charlie rarely went a day without picking up a lotto ticket and a scratcher or two, he made some decent winnings! Charlie also grew an interest in space, especially travel to Mars, UFO's, extraterrestrials, and of course the existence of BigFoot... he knows all the answers now.
Charlie had a personality that could fill a room and a wonderfully quirky sense of humor. Charlie was kind-hearted, and humbly generous. He would give the shirt off his back and the hat off his head to help a stranger.
Charlie deeply loved his family and was a devoted husband, dad, and grandpa. His family was his world and source of pride and joy. His legacy and memory will live on forever through his family. Charlie left a huge hole in our hearts that we are patching with loving memories. Until we meet in Heaven, you are missed beyond words.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents Charles J. Dedrick Sr. and Elizabeth Dedrick, along with his siblings: Katherine Casullo, Anne Marie Dedrick, Tony Dedrick and Derrick Dedrick.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Kim and his four daughters: Kimberly, Barbara, Joann and Jaime; Son-in-laws: Gerardo, Sam, and Chuck; Grandchildren: Zachary, Aspen, Matthew, Christopher and Nicholas; Great-Granddaughter Gabriella; and Grand-Furbabies: Olive and Gus.
Charlie will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific "Punchbowl" in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 27, 2025 with full military honors.
