Betty Jane (nee Weaver) Stovall Hoyt, 95 years of age, of Vancouver, WA, passed away on June 3, 2024, of natural causes while living at Orchard Park Health and Rehab in Tacoma, WA.

Betty was born on October 25, 1928, to Bert and Emma (Faden) Weaver in Calumet City, IL. She was the fourth born child of seven children and (one half-brother). She spent a good part of her childhood living in Desert Mission, (Sunnyslope) Arizona after her father moved the family there for health reasons. Betty had many fond memories of living there. Next, in 1944, the family moved to Walla Walla WA. Betty attended Walla Walla High School (WaHi) where she was a majorette.  At age 16, Betty went to work at the Triple X Drive-In where she was a skating waitress. This is where she met her first husband, Sammie Stovall, as he was in the Walla Walla Veteran's hospital. When he was honorably discharged from the Air Force, they moved to Vancouver, WA, where they were married on August 22, 1947, at the Covington House. They lived briefly in Seattle near Greenlake, while Sammie attended the University of Washington. Their first child, Diane, was born in 1952 while in Seattle. The next place they called home was Idaho Falls, ID where a second daughter, Patricia was born in 1955 (on Betty's birthday). They moved back to Vancouver for several years. Then back to Idaho Falls where almost six years later their youngest daughter, Jennifer, was born in 1961. Later that year they moved back to Vancouver, WA.

While living in Vancouver, Betty had several different jobs and was very talented at all of them. One of her favorite jobs was in the Election Division of Clark County.  While working there she met life-long friends: Virginia Hall and Margie Kindsfather. Betty was also very fond of her job as a secretary at Columbia River High School in Vancouver. Betty was an avid bowler and loved to play cards, particularly Bridge. She also enjoyed golfing as Sammie and she were charter members of Green Meadows Golf Course.

In 1971, the family was transferred to Fresno, CA for Sammie's job with the IRS with the promise that this move would allow him to not have to travel as much. Unfortunately, however, in 1972 Sammie died of a heart attack.  Betty then moved the family back to Vancouver, WA.  In 1974, Betty married long-time friend, Dick Hoyt.  Dick and Betty enjoyed dancing, golfing, traveling, and spending time with friends. After retirement, they both enjoyed wintering in Mesa, AZ, where they golfed and socialized with their many friends there.

Along with losing her first husband in 1972, she survived her second husband, Dick who passed away in 2014.  In 2014, Betty moved up to Milton, WA where she resided at Mill Ridge Village and easily met and enjoyed new friends as only she could. One to always enjoy a glass of wine in the evening she was instrumental in starting a wine social on Friday nights.

Betty survived all her siblings, and a granddaughter, Erin (2009).  She is survived by her daughters, Diane Brennan (Litchfield Park, AZ), Patty Ruge (Indianola, WA), and Jennifer Barkhurst (Sumner, WA) as well as 5 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.  She adored them all. She loved to call herself the "Cookie Grandma".

Betty's three daughters were all able to witness the grace their mother showed in her later years of life. Never one to complain about her situation and she always made the most of her surroundings. She was well liked and treasured by the staff at Orchard Park, which undoubtedly made the last 4 years of her life as good as the many years she got to enjoy beforehand. A true testament of how one should live their life. Always remembering their blessings.
