It is with profound sorrow and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Bert L Robinson who departed peacefully from this world on May 12, 2025 at the age of 94.  A beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, he will be remembered for his kindness, quiet support, and determination.

Bert was born on September 12, 1930 in Richmond, Kentucky to Ida Ross and William Robinson.  Losing his mom at the early age of 10 was a huge turning point in his life.  He became quite independent, working a variety of jobs such as delivering medications for a pharmacy and assisting in the historic Brown Hotel in Louisville, KY.

Bert's determination was evident as he enlisted in the US Army at the age of 17, claiming he was born in 1929.  His 23 year military career included serving in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. On his first duty station in Germany he met his wife Marianne whom he married on June 15, 1959 and formally adopted her daughter Karin several years later.  Other tours brought him back to Germany several times as well as Fort Lewis (JBLM) and Fort Leonard Wood, MO where he served as a drill sergeant.

After retirement from the military in 1972, he settled in Tacoma, WA and  spent several years attending college classes and working in a variety of civilian positions at JBLM. Outside of work Bert enjoyed dabbling in real estate, fishing and was particularly fond of the 'RV life'. He and Marianne took several trips back to Kentucky as well as many getaways to Eastern Washington, especially Moses Lake and Ellensburg.

He was bestowed a special honor in 2018 with a trip to Washington DC, sponsored by the Puget Sound Honor Flight, where he was given an extensive tour as a tribute to his lengthy military service.

He became a widower in 2004, losing his wife after her extended battle with breast cancer. Left to grieve him are his daughter Karin Roberts, granddaughter Andrea (J Stephen) Zdunek, granddaughters Alyse and Nora Zdunek, his long time companion Barbara Gilbert, cherished nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends.

Bert is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Marianne Robinson (Schmidt), and his siblings Willie Mae Miller, Nancy Willis, Mattie J Warford, Sue (Robinson) Green and Peggy Cunningham.

Internment with military honors will occur at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.  Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, WA 98042
