Barbara Maureen
Henning
Jul 16, 1937 — Oct 17, 2024
Lakewood
Barbara Maureen Henning, age 87, of Lakewood, Washington, went home to be with Jesus on October 17th, 2024. She was born to Earl and Martha Brown in Mishawaka, Indiana, on July 16th, 1937. She was the 14th child of 15 children.
Barbara worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Lakewood General & The Veterans Administration Hospitals for thirty years. Barbara worked in general wards, psychiatric hospitals, nursing home care units, and geriatric hospitals.
To everyone she encountered, Barbara Maureen Henning was a friend, mother, and grandma, a teacher, a nurturer, a caregiver, a counselor, and most of all an emotional support system for anyone who sought her help. Barbara was loving, compassionate, friendly, caring, and giving. She found joy in simple pleasures such as gardening and watching birds, especially the hummingbirds that she provided endless nectar for on her porch. Barbara loved animals; she always had a pet, and she enjoyed breeding Welsh Corgis before she had children. One of her favorite dogs was a Pomeranian named Lady. She loved cats all her life, with many wonderful memories of the cats she owned. Barbara had a fierce love for cooking; she loved to entertain with friends and family. She was very creative when it came to cooking; she was able to whip up a meal out of nothing. She enjoyed watching episodes of "Price is Right" and daytime soaps, All My Children and Young and the Restless. And Barbara's favorite restaurant to dine at was the Old Country Buffet in Lakewood, WA. Many family gatherings were held there; she made countless memories.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Michelle Mae Miller and Melody Miriam Reed, as well as her brother Dennis Brown and sister Noami McFarland. Her sons-in-law, Larry Miller and Shone Scarberry, also survive her. Alisha Wood, Sheila Miller, Larry Miller Jr., Sydney Miller, and Ethan Reed are grandchildren.
Barbara's life was rich with the love and laughter of her family, who will miss her deeply. Her laugh was contagious and brought many smiles to all the people around her.
